US
Soldiers Find Their Ace
In a Hole In the Ground |
 |
On December 13th, soldiers the the US Army 4th Infantry, acting
on a tip from an Iraqi citizen, captured Saddam Hussein in a "spider
hole" on a farm in Dawr, 10 miles south of Tikrit, Iraq.
Mr. Hussein was armed with a pistol and two rifles, along with
US $750,000. He surrendered without a struggle, and without any
shots being fired.
Thus ends a decades-long reign of terror that forced the Iraqi
citizens to live in poverty while their leader lived in dozens of
opulent palaces.

| Mr. Hussein had a beard when captured. After he
was cleaned up and shaved he looked more like his old self. |

Saddam Hussein was the infamous "Ace of Spades" in the
"Iraqi Most Wanted" deck of cards, with a bounty of US $25,000,000
on his head. It remains to be seen who will receive that reward.
The fastidious Saddam Hussein could not stand dirt. He insisted
that his guests be bathed and scrubbed before he would see them.
It is ironic that he spent his last few hours of freedom in a tiny
mud hole, sharing the space with rats and mice.
Paul Bremer, the US administrator in Iraq, announced, "We
got him!"
