ISDN An Integrated Services Digital Network Line (ISDN) is a highly reliable digital telephone line with two 64k channels that can be joined into one 128k channel as needed. Many ISPs support ISDN but not all support a 128k connection. ISDN is billed by the minute, by the channel, and by the time of day. The connection will drop and re-connect as needed and some providers charge for each re-connection. If you don't order enough "free" minutes each month you will quickly discover the origins of the nickname "I Smell Dollars Nearby"! Aggregated Connection An Aggregated Connection consists of multiple dial-up phone lines, each with a modem and ISP account. The speed can be 112k or faster, depending on the number of lines and their quality. Not all ISPs support aggregation. If you must have a high speed connection and you can't have DSL, cable, or ISDN, then aggregation may work for you but it may not be cheap, if it is available. T1 line A T1 Line line runs at a steady 1.54m and can be segmented into several lines, making it the choice of networking specialists. Most people have neither the expertise nor the money for a T1 line. Some other considerations The quality of broadband service ranges from excellent to wretched, horrid, and worse. Visit our Resources page to find information about providers in your area. All computers connecting to the Internet must have an IP Address. There are several types of IP address that your ISP may assign to you.
Sharing a broadband connection You can share one DSL or cable modem connection with up to 253 computers. Click on "Internet Sharing" on the menu at the left to learn more.
