Once your PC is connected to the Internet you will need
to gather some information that will be needed to set
up your gateway. This information will be essential if
you must return your PC to its original configuration.

WinIpCfg Utility
At the PC that is connected to the Internet click on
Start / Run. Type Winipcfg in the box and press Enter.
- For Windows 2000 and XP see below.
You should see a menu listing a PPP Adapter and your
NIC. Select your NIC. Click on the More Info button
to bring up a screen like the one at the right.
Write down all of these numbers:
- DNS Server - Click the ... button to see all
of your addresses.
- IP Address - This may change at any time.
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
- DHCP Server
If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, or if you can't
get the Winipcfg utility to run you can run it from a
DOS prompt.
- Go to Windows/System32 or Winnt/System32.
- Type IPConfig /all.
- You should see the necessary information listed in
text form.
